I went for an evening hike from the Smokey Bear trailhead, and was surprised to see a sluff that put 12 to 18" deposition on the trail, 15 feet wide, with no hikers tracks through it. It appeared to have come down in the heat of the day, probably midafternoon. Just up the trail were 2 more small deposition piles that did have hikers tracks through them. So someone hiked up and back after the first two slides, and before the third one came down. These were not big, but they could push someone off the trail if they happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was a good reminder that there is some steep terrain above that could possibly impact the start of that trail.
